My husband David and I bought an RV to live in full-time a month ago. Here’s how we made the decision.

After we got engaged in December of 2018, we started talking about where we were going to live once we were married. We bounced around every option – apartment, house, camper? And decided an apartment would be the best option for that time.

After living in the apartment for one year and nine months, a sweet friend of ours put a house up for rent in a nice little neighborhood, and we applied. We moved in, and it’s been the greatest blessing for the past two years and three months. Going from 700 square feet to about 1100 felt like we were living in a castle! Throughout our time living here, we kept looking for a house to buy. We placed offers on three different houses, but none of the offers were accepted. We knew that God was telling us “no” on those houses for a reason, and kept trusting the right place would work out at the right time.

The day after our third offer on a house fell through (which is a story all its own…we were SO grateful our offer was not accepted), David mentioned going to look at an RV in our town that he’d seen on Facebook marketplace. We’d started seriously discussing living in a camper last summer, and over the years have looked at hundreds, so we were both open to the idea of actually making that dream a reality. When we arrived to look at the RV (a 2000 Beaver Contessa), I realized I knew the lady selling it.

As we walked through the RV, we could tell it had been lovingly maintained. The owner told us the maintenance history, and little tips and tricks about it. David and I immediately felt so comfortable, like this RV could actually be our next home.

We left, prayed and talked about the decision. The next morning, we were still at peace and united with buying it, so David called the lady and made an offer. This offer didn’t fall through, and we were absolutely thrilled!

David’s parents own three acres in the country, which is where we parked the RV. It’s already where we garden and David works on various projects in the garage, and is such a relaxing piece of property with beautiful sunset views.

David repairing water damage

The RV did have some water damage that we’ve been working on repairing. If you follow my stories on Instagram, then you’ve seen that entire process (it’s also saved as a highlight). We are also trying to become minimalists in a hurry – we’ve been sorting through all our stuff, getting rid of some things and figuring out how to store the rest. Honestly, downsizing might be the best thing for us at this point in our lives. We are both so excited about it, and I’m just deeply thankful.

We want to be moved out of our rental house by June 30, but it feels like we have so much to do (because we do lol). It’s a little stressful, because that’s just the nature of it, but we’re also having fun and still feel confident we made the right decision, despite little setbacks with the repairs here and there.

Because of all this going on, I’m going to take a little break from blogging. I really, really hate to, but at this point I simply don’t have enough hours in the day to write. As soon as we’re settled in, I’ll be back, and we’ll continue the Identity Crisis series. I love spending Tuesdays with y’all! I will continue sharing updates in my Instagram stories, so you are welcome to follow along there.

In the meantime, if you remember us, we appreciate your prayers! We’ve got a lot of work ahead, but it’s already a great adventure.

With grit and grace,

Whitney
